|
Are you planning a corporate event or meeting abroad? Amsterdam might be the perfect destination for your group. This very special city in central Europe offers countless reasons to visit, and I'll discuss the ten most important and outstanding ones.

1. Central position in Europe The convenient location in Western Europe makes Holland an easy to reach destination. Holland's capital Amsterdam is only 20 minutes away from Schiphol International Airport, where direct flights from all over the world come in. It is also a hub within Europe, not only reachable by airplane, but also by train, bus and car.

3. Art and culture Take your pick! See the works of Dutch masters and treasures of a time when Amsterdam was the richest city in the world at the Rijksmuseum, including the world-famous Nightwatch. Learn about the styles and secrets of the man who could be considered Holland's most interesting painter at the Van Gogh Museum. Or walk through the tiny annex that a group of eight called home for two years during Nazi-occupied Amsterdam in World War II at the Anne Frank House. These are among the top museums in Amsterdam, but there are nearly 50 more to teach, entertain or move your guests.
In fact Amsterdam has the highest density of culture and art on display per square meter in the world. Besides museums and galleries, Amsterdam offers 40 concerts and theatrical performances per day and many internationally orientated events and festivals during the year.

4. Metropolitan Amsterdam Lively and beautiful Amsterdam has a unique atmosphere. Radiating out from the Dam Square, the historic centre of the city is ringed by it’s stunning 17th century quaint canals and cobbled streets, thronged with bicycles, tourists, houseboats, students, and street performers.
Amsterdam wears two faces: on one it smiles and beckons hedonistic youth with it’s notorious Red Light District, modern architecture and cultural festivals, while on the other hand it offers some of Europe's finest museums and art galleries. This all makes Amsterdam incomparable to other cities.
Small but diverse, Amsterdam offers a cosmopolitan melting pot of social, cultural possibilities for meetings and events.

5. Metropolitan Rotterdam - option two Rotterdam is the second largest conference destination in Holland. This metropolitan has re-invented itself into a modern, dynamic international city and is situated on the banks of the Maas River. Even though the city is famous for its large harbour industry, Rotterdam offers much more than that. The impressive skyline is constantly expanding and the city is a cultural and economic hotspot.
The city centre was hugely damaged during German bombing raids at the beginning of World War II – and ever since Rotterdam has been rebuild into a very modern city where architecture plays a key role. There are of course still historic sections to be visited, such as Delfshaven and Hotel New York, where many Dutch once departed to start a new life in America. Rotterdam, offers many cultural and sporting events, much exiting architecture, excellent conference facilities and a wide range of restaurants. |

6. Typical Dutch attractions If you really want to get to know the Dutch, there are countless attractions all over the country to discover Holland. For example De Hoge Veluwe. This is the Netherland’s biggest national park, covering over 5,500 hectares. The park is a mixture of forests and woods, shifting sands and heath moors. The area gives off a strange sense of isolation, which is hard to comprehend, considering it lies in one of Europe’s most densely populated countries. Red deer, wild boar and mouflon (a Mediterranean sheep) roam wild here.
Another interpretation of a daytime activity is a trip to the Red Light District in the centre of Amsterdam. Or you can visit the Heineken Experience to find out everything about the world-famous beer brand. Or perhaps the Keukenhof Gardens, the largest bulb flower park in the world suits your group more. It covers an area of 32 hectares, with 4,5 million tulips in over 100 varieties.
Besides the tulips, Holland is world-famous for its windmills. Today there are still over 1,000 mills left in the country but the village of Kinderdijk is the best place to see them. Built in 1740, the 19 windmills are remarkably well preserved. In 1997 the mills of Kinderdijk were put on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
